This is the story I'd like to read as a novel from Ness.

This one was a little weird for me. It connected the least with [b:The Ask and the Answer|6043849|The Ask and the Answer (Chaos Walking, #2)|Patrick Ness|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1408312960s/6043849.jpg|6219422], other than to explain Mistress Coyle a little, and it wasn't connected really to the third book, so it leaves me perplexed. I liked seeing another dimension to the human/Spackle interplay, and I guess hearing about Haven was cool? I don't know what to think.

Just beautiful. Even in these few pages Ness manages to let you get to know the main characters, makes you care for them AND put in a plot twist! All done wonderfully in his stunning writing.

Sweet, interesting story

A short story in the Chaos Walking universe. Enjoyable addition to the world-building adding a slice of additional perspective to characters in the main trilogy. This story would make no sense if you haven't read at least some of the books in the trilogy -- the author suggests reading this between books two and three.

Plot: Set in the past, and featuring familiar characters such as Mistress Coyle, this story focuses on a small fishing village that will feature prominently in Monsters of Men.

Genre: Dystopian, young adult, action and adventure, short story.

Thoughts While Reading:

Thoughts at 100%:
1. I thoroughly enjoyed this. I always like books that portray different types of relationships (e.g. between different species of aliens etc.), and this short story did it beautifully. My only complaint is that I wish we could of had more.

Conclusion and Recommendation:
This was a solid 4-star read (for a short story). I think that the adds to the world of Chaos Walking really well, and offered new information and perspectives that we haven't gotten before. I would recommend that anyone who has read and enjoyed the main Chaos Walking books, read this too. It's definitely unique.

A nice backstory for something that’s probably gonna to lead to something happening in the third and final book.
