Slight Maximum Ride Forever spoilers (the book before this one) and some from Hawk:

This book doesn't make sense with the established timeline in Maximum Ride Forever. There's a lot of discrepancies and inconsistency with this book against the established story and timeline. There isn't a lot of explanation as to how things got to to be where they were from how they ended, and even the ending of Maximum Ride forever and the beginning of this book do not match up. In the epilogue of Maximum Ride forever, page 380, it's mentioned that Hawk/Phoenix is "now a tall, lanky fourteen-year old" and she's about to go on her first flying lessons with Max, Fang and the rest of the flock. In this new book, she's 15, but somehow it's been 10 years since she's last seen her parents and doesn't remember who they were. The math ain't mathin' there.

Another inconsistency or something that doesn't quite make sense is in this book Total (Angel's flying talking dog) has had puppies, and one curls up on Hawk's lap later. However, there's not really mention of how that happened, if he got another mate or what because his mate Akila died in Maximum Ride Forever.

I wonder if James Patterson or whoever wrote this book for him/with him actually looked back at Maximum Ride Forever and the other books before this one before writing Hawk because it just doesn't add up.

To be back in the world of Maximum Ride again was great, & like the original MR series, this was fast paced. However, the writing style was effected due to the ghost writer, and some of the characters came off differently than the original series as a result. Definitely not as good as the original but fun to dive back into this world.

Highly disappointed with this. I’ve heard so much about James Patterson. He has books everywhere! And yet… this is quite possibly one of the most disappointing books I’ve ever read. The characters were shallow, the ending was rushed and weak, there were exclamation points every other paragraph, the story was underdeveloped—I could go on and on. It felt like reading a fan-fiction, except I hate to insult fan fiction.

The only reason I finished the book is because I wanted to know how it ended. Frankly, it would’ve been more excited if I hadn’t know. The climax was over in like three pages…

Perhaps this was just a bad first Patterson novel, but we’ll see. For now, all I have to say is, don’t waste your time with this novel.

You walk outside expecting to see butterflies, the blue sky and white clouds but instead, you see people fighting, a completely gray sky, and everything ahead destroyed and worn down with homeless everywhere. In the City of the Dead 2060, there are many strange people and many are homeless. There are also Opes that are addicted to a drug, called Dope, which helps the government control their lives, unlike in 2020 when there was more freedom from government control. Some prisoners are arrested for things that they never did, similar to 2020, but on a much larger scale. There are exceptions — special families that are called “the sixes” as in six families that are rich because they are the only ones that can import and export goods. The City of the Dead is polluted and there are no animals besides humans. Most people think that animals of the past are a myth or legend.

Honestly the hype was more exciting than the actual book. I was looking forward for so long to jump back in to the universe of Maximum Ride, but the whole story was so anticlimactic. Like (SPOILER) having Max trapped in a prison for 10 YEARS? I cant see that happening to her at all. The overall story in general was not as big and important as some of Max's other escapades. :(
