This was an excellent novella. It is so short, but the world building is so clear and the writing is so vivid. It is a story of prejudice, identity, violence, and unexpected friendships.

When Binti decides to go to school on a different planet, her family is proud of her acceptance but concerned about her leaving. They have no idea that she’ll be required to use her skills as a harmonizer sooner than she ever could have imagined and that, when she does, the stakes will be life and death.

Binti
is a great primer for what I am confident will be a strong series, but it is quite slow and it ends suddenly.

I am looking forward to reading the next book and enjoyed the world building in this one. The way that Okorafor uses math as a foundation for things that are not stereotypically considered mathematical is really interesting.

This was another audio book listen for me. I enjoyed the narrator but it seemed like they set the levels poorly. I struggled to hear her if I was in the car listening.

I didn't know anything starting this book, and honestly, that's a good thing. This is a good story. Maybe I was expecting more action, but it would have been too much. So yeah, a good surprise. Sometimes I felt a bit lost, but I think it's more because I was reading it when I needed to sleep than because of the book

it clearly was trying to do something it really didn’t succeed at. suffers from being a novella for sure. and the prose is a bit bland for my tastes, though the story ideas are interesting. i might read on but not right now.
