Very mediocre, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy it. I liked the characters enough that I’m going to pickup the second one and give it a go. However - this book felt very… I don’t know, it was lacking. The world building was sloppy, the plot was pretty shallow, and the writing style was fair. I’m not a creative person, but I was consistently thinking of all the ways that XYZ things could have been stronger. I understand that in fantasy the first book is often weak because it’s dedicated to introductions and building, so we’ll see how the next one goes.

This is Simon and Galen. Pretty low relationship angst considering. Can't wait to read about Castor in the next book. I really liked how they fit together personality wise, Galen was just so smitten! It was cute for this half angel to be so giddy.

Strong first half. I really enjoyed the story and setup. And there was a lot of chemistry between the characters. But by the second half of the book the chemistry seemed to disappear and the relationship progression felt fake. I'm not sure I believe them wanting to change their whole lives based on such a short acquaintanceship.

The book has a strong supporting cast which will obviously be important in later books.

The religious aspect is...whatever. It would have been better if Osborn made up their own world instead of trying to reinterpret Christianity. Especially since there are comments in the book about "all religions" but the Osborn is likely only familiar with the 3 main Abrahamic ones.

Okay read. The romance was contrived, and the chemistry journey was not properly shown on the page. I will read the next book in the hopes that that romance is better, and if it isn't, at least the overarching story is good.

Loved the characters and the world but the writing felt a bit two dimensional at times.
