This book was a surprise. It was totally unescorted romance and I loved it. I thought it was a stand alone book and when I found out it was a series it made a lot more sense why there were some wholes in the story.
Richelle Mead does it again. Man, this book was interesting and I truly can't wait to read Tamsin's story and Mira's. There was enough of a connection to solidify the girls' friendships but all the time that Mira sneaks off or that Tamsin is missing probably means that there will be some fascinating tale to go along with it. A very enjoyable read, and I agree with the sentiment that this will appeal to fans of The Selection series or fans of the show Reign.

I listened to this book on Audible and it took me a bit to get into as the accents that were used seemed exaggerated. I might have liked this book more if I read it. It has and interesting storyline but it never pulled me in all the way. I am not motivated that motivated to read the rest of the series...
“Never assume you’ll have to follow the destiny someone else has spelled out for you.”
This was my first book that I have read by Richelle Mead—and probably my last. It’s not that this book was god-awful, but it was just boring and predictable at times. Not only was the predictability of the plot disheartening, but I also felt that the plot itself and the timeline was kind of a mess. At the beginning of the book, there was a huge time jump that left the reader asking WTF?! Sadly, I was not impressed with this book and will probably be avoiding other Mead books in the future.

(2.5) Kind of like a slightly less embarrassing Selection. Super fast paced and incredibly predictable but it's good as one of books you read when you don't really want to think about anything! I would put this in a classroom starting in middle school or junior high. I don't think it has anything I wouldn't want my students to read at that age, and I think some kids would really love it.
Started out well, then went incredibly slowly and ended far too quickly. Terrible pacing!!! Not a book that will be remembered
