If you are unfamiliar with this series, we follow Kai and Irene. Irene is a Librarian, a role in which she collects books from alternate worlds and brings them back to her home base the Library - imagine a room between worlds. Kai is a dragon prince who tags along just because he can, and together they visit worlds, collecting books, dodging death, and constantly feeling feels for each other but neither wants to ruin the friendship. Look, I can't say much without spoiling the first two books but this series is everything I ever want. Strong female lead, mysteries, magic, and a tiny tiny bit of romance. Like, I ship this guys so much more than any other characters I have read and they better kiss in this next book or I'm suing.

My major problem with this book - and believe me, it's a big one - is that the FOURTH BOOK ISN'T OUT FOR NINE MORE MONTHS. >:(
I absolutely loved this book. This series is so far up my alley! It's amazing and I'd highly recommend it to my friends. Cogman hasn't put a foot wrong, in my opinion. I adore the characters, the plot, the writing, the worldbuilding - all of it.

cry a lot when Zayanna died, because I liked her a lot. I also wanted her to live and succeed in her goal of seducing Irene, because yes. I like the mentor/protege dynamic between Irene and Kai FAR more than the ongoing hints of romance.Also, I only noticed this when I finished the book and looked at the cover again, but
