A classic adventure tale centred around the usual 'cursed treasure' trope. It's not great, but not shabby either. Readers should give this book some justice - appreciate it as a work of its time; do not read it through modern lens.

Falkner did a succinct job in wrapping everything up in slightly less than 250 pages, but there is certainly more capacity to develop.

A deeply moving story of love, forgiveness, and redemption that masquerades as an adventure story. Highly recommend.

If, like me, you have a thing for Victorian adventure stories, then this is the book for you. It ended up on my reading list while I read Treasure Island last year. In a similar fashion, this is told from the protagonist's perspective. It's a beautiful story about friendship and coming of age set in the rough landscapes of Dorset.

So interesting to read books written in other eras. This one was written in 1898 and was a historical novel even then, because the events in the story take place in the mid-1700s.

A riveting adventure story, set in the village of Moonfleet, on the Dorset coast and centred on 15 year old John Trenchard, an orphan who gets caught up in the local business of smuggling. Treasure, phantoms, villains, the villain's beautiful daughter and the undying friendship of Elzevir Block, the local innkeeper who had lost his own son, make this story one of incredible adventure and thrills.
