Oh dear, oh dear. The only place this lifts itself out of rote storytelling is in the sparky dialogue between the MCs.
To save your jaded neurons, imagine if Willow (from Buffy) had been the Slayer and after graduation she’d decided to join a sort of magical law enforcement agency. The agency is policed solely by paranormal individuals, vampires, fae, wizards and the usual collection of weretypes. It’s set in (brace for cringe) Magiford. If you’re wondering where that is, well, it’s a few miles down the I666 from Spellsville and Hexton. There’s a secure facility called (brace for cringe) Ghast Prison.
There’s some sort of romance going on between our socially inept – but incredibly capable – Slayer and an Elder Vampire. Cooking is sort of wedged in at the edges, as if the author dabbled her toes in coziness.
The thing that bothers me most about this sort of thing is how lazy it is. Wheel out some well-worn archetypes and tropes and write some words connecting them together. There’s a heap of explication but not a scrap of original thinking.

Started slow, but once you get to know the characters you're hooked for good. I *LOVE* the Magiford novels!
