The Lies of Vampires and Slayers: Magiford Supernatural City (Magic on Main Street #1) by K.M. Shea – This series is on kindle unlimited. I love Magiford! I did wait to start the new series closer to the release of book 2, but I should have waited until the third book was out! If you love urban fantasy, amazing characters, sarcasm, and unparalleled world building, you too will want to spend all your time reading Kitty Shea’s books! Have fun with our vampire slayer and her sneaky new neighbor! Happy Reading!

I loved it! I really didn’t want it to end. But I was satisfied with the ending and can’t wait for book two.
Jade was so relatable!

Check this out if you like clean urban fantasy!

Reader’s Notes:

– this is the first of a trilogy and should be read in order

– this is part of K. M. Shea’s Magiford world and though this trilogy could be read on its own, it is more enjoyable if you’ve read at least the Hall of Blood and Mercy trilogy (starts with Magic Forged; another great one to read first, but less needed would be the Court of Midnight and Deception trilogy which starts with Crown of Shadows)

– this is told from Jade & Considine’s points of view

– Jade has social anxiety and is trying to overcome it

Review:

Oh boy is Jade going to be in for a doozy next book! XD I loved this book so much and how Jade tried to balance her two lives in a way to keep herself safe from retaliation when off duty. I loved seeing her try to get past her social anxiety and somewhat achieving it a bit at times and then second guessing herself. I loved that Considine ended up being so entertained by Jade’s everything that he’d end up seeking her out more times than not, despite having resolved not to allow himself to get involved when he first moved in. I loved that Considine got on Killian’s nerves and managed to easily avoid him when he didn’t care to be found. (I’m curious to know if the Paragon will come up in a future book in a place that Considine will be and what he’d bring to the dynamic between Killian & Considine. The Paragon on his own is very entertaining, but with how he gets on Killian’s nerves as well, things could get a little extra interesting!) I loved the mystery aspect of the incidences Jade and her coworkers were investigating. I’m curious to find out why these incidences occurred and what the true influencers behind the one caught in this book are trying to achieve. I also really loved the interactions that our slayer and vampire had when Jade was on patrol with her coworkers. It was so entertaining to read their banter and see what the vampire was trying to achieve when he decided to bug Jade. I’m so excited for the next book!

Summary:

Jade is a slayer who wants to be more than an assassin, she wants to be someone who can make life better for supernaturals rather than someone feared by supernaturals. In an effort to separate herself from the life she grew up in, Jade moved to Magiford to join their supernatural task force – essentially the cops for supernatural matters that have the safety of both supernaturals and humans in mind. By day, Jade masquerades as a normal human that works as a secretary for the Curia Cloisters – a supernatural hub of information and politics. By night, she’s a feared slayer on the task force that makes even her coworkers quake in their boots, unfortunately. Being a slayer and a person who has social anxiety has not been kind to Jade when it comes to making friends. That is until a vampire moves in next door. Connor’s vampire charisma doesn’t work on Jade, but his vampire presence does make it possible for her to push aside her anxiety to get more than stumbled words out. While Jade is overjoyed at this new development, she doesn’t have much time to truly dwell on it with the current issues arising in the supernatural world. The biggest being a new and very powerful vampire in town claiming part of downtown Magiford as his territory. And he’s also set his sights on the lone slayer on the task force as the perfect entertainment for him to battle with, no matter what Jade’s up to at the time. This vampire has no care for work schedules, only his own agendas…

Considine is one of the most powerful vampires around and has been tasked by one of his past friends with the care of said friend’s vampire offspring. If Considine had his way, he’d never have had any responsibility for other vampires. As it is, these Dracos offspring are exasperating enough to keep in line by giving them wake up calls every couple centuries to keep them moving instead of lying around in their coffins. Nothing has truly been remotely entertaining or fun to Considine with these tasks taking up his efforts. That is until he moves to Magiford to check in on a certain Eminence of the Midwest who is being questionable as of late in comparison to his powerful & ruthless past. Though things appear to be the same, Considine has to keep a discrete eye on his charge without being surveilled in return. This leads Considine to a human apartment building – the last place the vampires would think to look for him – and in it, an oddly socially anxious human by the name of Jade. Considine is oddly intrigued by the human’s exuberance at all the events and little things around town and finds himself allowing her to drag him in to her orbit…
