This was a fun sweet little book. A little young for me but that's not a criticism of the book.
This is a YA book, and I picked it up at a used book sale for a few dollars. I haven't read any of the others in this series, so I may have been coming at this a bit from left field, but I didn't feel like I was missing anything, and the author wrote this well enough that a reader could easily understand who the characters are and what their story and situations are in this world.
Grace is a spunky, adorable, entertaining main character and I liked her a bunch! She is smart and resourceful and kind. She also manages to get herself into all sorts of trouble, which is fun to read about.
Overall, this was a fun easy read. It would be very good for young readers.

Probably my favourite of this series, Finney captures perfectly the tone with which Elizabethan England approached racial and religious differences - which is to say with excitement and curiosity, as well as an eye to keeping ruling class relations steady, and both more and less prejudice than we see today. The joy and that permeates this series carries the subject matter through brilliantly.

Lady Grace encounters a panther and it's owner Banoo Yasmine who has a ruby of great beauty. Banoo Yasmine is seeking asylum and offers the ruby as surety, when it is stolen, one of Grace's friends is blamed.
I had my suspicions but some of them turned out to be untrue. Fun read, light and not too involved. It's starting to lose some of it's earlier spark but still enjoyable.
