Had a fair bit of trouble getting. Going with this one. Curious to see about the trajectory of some newer characters, but otherwise not a significant addition to the canon.

A pretty disappointing Agatha Raisin read, which I only picked up due to itโs festive story line. I think I struggle with some of the later books in this series ๐
Thankfully this one contained little by way of Agatha's romantic obsessions. Another light read.
Hamish Macbeth ... but English. Obviously, given the author. Given Beaton's enormous output, it's amazing she tries to squash so much into these books. A whole year passes in this book - which does work with realism and doesn't have the police handle DNA testing and such within a few hours - but in that time Agatha has both a serious operation and catches swine flu, and yet neither of these impact the story one bit and seem to be there to explain other long periods of time with no action. There are probably about three separate novels here. Interesting characters, but I'm new to this series and feel I've missed a lot of the overarching backstory.
Alright so this one got bumped up to four stars, simply for the fabulous ending. I'm not going to say anything more about that, BUT I was animated.
I was a little miffed that there were some continuity issues from the previous book, but overall it was an interesting tangle of mystery that kept me interested, and the introduction of Simon was very good. I thought Toni seemed a little less herself this time around though - more timid, and less the detective we've seen previously.
Regardless, that ending tickled me and left me looking forward to the next book.
