It’s been a while since I’ve read anything by Karin Slaughter, as her books are typically based around uncomfortable themes, but straight away I was hooked! This book was difficult to put down and it really didn’t take me long to read it.

The characters are strong and likeable. This book is part of the Will Trent series so the characters are well established at this point. You can easily pick back up from the last book you read - regardless of how long ago that was.

Initially the story focuses on one case, with another two or three cases being introduced as the story goes on. The introduction of one of the cases was a little bit clunky and random - one of the pages showed various text messages which hadn’t really been referenced beforehand. There is also a little bit of jumping around in time which feels a little bit clumsy.

The themes of this book are dark and it is quite uncomfortable to read in places. It is off putting but I also found that I couldn’t stop myself from reading.

This book put me through the emotional wringer! I figured out a few of the plot twists but there was a couple towards the end there that completely got me! I haven’t read any of the other Will Trent series, but after this read i most definitely will be reading them.

Can't immediately put my finger on why but I found this book to be one of her lesser works. And yet, smooth read as usual. 3.5 stars.

Another great installment in the Will Trent Series. This one was emotional and twisty and compelling. The reflection on past events and the connection to current events seamlessly threaded the plot of this story. Sara got some closure, Faith got some clarity, and Will grew emotionally. The characters were front and center, which added to my investment in the outcomes. Although the subject matter is graphic and painful, the GBI teamwork prevails.
