4.2 AVERAGE

I Enjoy Karin Slaughter books so much! They never let me down. I would give this a 4.5/5. I love the Will Trent series, I feel connected to the characters and love that this story line continues.

Some of this book felt a little predictable, but I didn’t mind because it was so enjoyable. I listened to this as an audiobook and love the narrator, Kathleen Early.

As a fan of Karin Slaughter and the Will Trent/Sara Linton characters for many years this didn’t disappoint.

This was a tough read/listen. In fact, after finishing it several days ago, I'm still not sure what to say about it. This book felt akin to taking the monster out of your closet and taking the time to examine its teeth and claws as it guts you. It pulls that monster into the light and vanquishes the shadows that offered some modicum of protection.

This isn't my first Will Trent book, but I haven't read all of them and certainly not in order. So, it can be read as a standalone.

I would say that this isn't a pulse-pounding thriller in the typical sense, but more a police procedural. The pull has to do with seeing how everything unfolds. I spent the majority of the book with my stomach in my throat but luckily Slaughter's wit helps to break up some of that.

Be sure to read the trigger warnings for this, including: stalking, abuse, rape (off page), misogyny. I know some of my own triggers were pulled with this one, so be aware going in and take your time with it if you need to.

I may be slightly biased here because I absolutely love the Will Trent series, but holy cow this is one awesome book!!!! Karin Slaughter you absolutely knocked it out of the park with this book!!!! This story really answers some questions about Sara's back story. The masterful way Slaughter weaves the past and present together to make this insane case that's like nothing you've ever seen on Criminal Minds is simply amazing! Curl up, grab some coffee because once you start this book you won't be able to put it down!

I received an early copy of this book. Thanks to Karin Slaughter and HarperCollins. I found "After That Night" lived up to what you expect Karin Slaughter to write. I have not read a Will Trent novel in awhile but found this novel added enough details so I wasn't lost. The story was not as gruesome as Slaughter can get, but the edge was there. I stayed engaged from start to finish and the ending blew me away.
