2.5 STARS...

1-Plot- I know stuff happened but... did it? This should have been 2 SOLID BOOKS not 4.
2-Climax-i felt like we were just waiting and waiting for something to happen with Xaden or anybody important really, and nothing.
3-Ending-the ending of the book was the EXACT same ending as the last book. So all of that just to end this way was SO frustrating.
4-Violet- she used to be so intelligent and logical and now she's just blighted by her stupid love for Xaden.
5-Love-okay okayyy WE.GET IT. y'all can't bang during a WAR...come on Violence people are dying, there are more important things going on.
6-Writing-there we're some sentences I had to read over and over because I truly did not think they made sense. I swear her writing/Grammer is getting worse with each book. Don't even get me started on how many times she said the words "GLIMMERING ONYX" or just the word onyx in general. I tend to notice when authors repeat words too much and let me tell you...Rebecca is one of the worst I've ever read.
7-Summary-wtf is going on?! She is not great and giving an overview/reminding us about random characters or places so the first half of the book you're just pushing through confused as crap (unless your a die hard fan of this series I would assume). I swear she throws random names/places in there that she's never brought up before. In this book she is all over the place with the plot and where the storyline is going that even though there were SO MANY random things added to the story it felt like nothing really happened and you were more confused than ever. I'm gonna end there and let this simmer for a bit. maybe I'll update this review later when I've had time to organize my thoughts. But as of right now ..not impressed.

I had some trouble remembering the context and keeping characters/places straight in the first third of the book. It would have been helpful to reread the prior two books first, but I managed to piece it together.

Overall, this was a good continuation of the story. Perhaps is a little too heavy on the world-building politics as some of the motives weren’t clear. I felt like the story was almost entirely anchored around spending more time with the characters, and the over-arching plot was lacking. I do like the characters though and appreciated the backstory development with the parents.

I really liked the story, but the ending just ruined it for me. I’m here for the fantasy battles and romance, and then a huge battle and a main character marriage both happen off-page?? I’m not sure if it’s greedy (to sell more of the sequel) or lazy (couldn’t decide how to properly write those two sections) or something else, but it really doesn’t sit right with me.
