Brilliant Sequel!

Overall: 5 Stars
Performance: 5 Stars
Story: 5 Stars

Sometimes books lose their spark in the sequel, but this one did not! The storyline kept me guessing. I never wanted to stop listening.

Quick Summary: Famous prosecutor gets murdered in an alley, her throat slit. The prosecutor was someone close to the Commander, who puts Eve as primary (i.e., in charge) on the case. Her investigation starts turning up information that is unpleasant to the Commander, and his relationship with Eve is tested. On the side, Eve is dealing with emotional turmoil; Roarke has told her that he loves her, and she does not know what to do about that. Her reluctance to accept his feelings for her cause trouble in the relationship and now Eve has to decide: to leave Roarke or to commit completely.

Review: Loved this book as much as the first one! There is huge character development, and we see a little bit more of the relationship between Eve and her Commander. And of course, the most fun part is seeing how the relationship between Eve and Roarke develops.

It's been a while since I read book 1 so I forgot the characters; still don't really remember Roark or the relationship after finishing book 2.
I knew the killer right away and was not surprised. I like that Eve started opening up to the psychologist about things other than mandated case stuff. I like that she and Roark were able to communicate; it wasn't pretty but it was better. I like the friendships that Eve showed during this book.
The audiobook narrator was great and I will be listening to more of this series.

I am starting to really enjoy this series. The futuristic aspect is the perfect amount to make it interesting to read about, but without overwhelming the police/mystery aspect. I love Eve and Roarke as characters, though Eve's stubbornness can get on my nerves. I hope she can learn to trust him.

As for the mystery it was very intriguing and took a while to figure out. There were so many possible angles and Eve did an awesome job of looking at the murders many different ways. My theory from about 70% through the book was
Spoilerthe reporter Morse. But I wasn't firm on it and I kind of thought that would be way too ridiculous. But, that would explain why he always had the early scoop of the murders and was always there to report on it. He obviously wanted to help his career and was annoyed these women were getting in his way. And he seems to be a good actor.

I'll definitely continue the series.

Note: The audiobook narrator was awesome and I'd love to hear more of this series with her.

Love the beginning of Eve and Roarke, and this is a perfect follow up, I am so glad there are at least 40 books in this series, I could take the series on a deserted island and never be bored!

In Death Series Book #2

I am going through a re-read of this series. This is one of my favorites of the series. Starting to get into more character depth on the MCs and the "sidekicks". The tension, the sweetness, the mystery are all so well done here.
The relationship build between characters is well written. Nothing seems forced or too cheesy. The romance is blooming and there is some tension build there. There are some friendships beginning to blossom as well.
The mystery aspects do keep you guessing. As a re-read, knowing the who of it, it is entertaining to pick out the clues that lead to the conclusion. Somethings that either were missed the first time or just were taken a different way.

This was great as a first time read and still entertaining as a re-read.
