I come to this as a big Prince fan and as someone who didn't know too much about Dickens's personal life. This was a fun, quirky, little book. Hornby basically is fanboying over two of his idols and draws comparisons between them - their tremendous creative output, their women trouble, their business woes, etc. I wasn't really convinced that they have a ton in common, but that didn't stop me from enjoying this exploration of two interesting creative geniuses. Hornby is a very entertaining writer and this won't take you long to read.

This is a fascinating comparison of two geniuses separated by almost 150 years! Hornby makes a compelling argument that these two iconoclasts were both driven by the same kind of manic genius. It’s a short, easy to read, thought provoking page-turner. Five stars!

Think of this more of an essay than a novel/short story.
I thought this was a great palette cleanser sort of book! Read after the heaviness of In Cold Blood
Some interesting ruminations on productivity and anti-perfectionism. I haven't read a single Dickens and honestly don't know much Prince (outside of what I've danced to in my previous competition dancer life). This book made me want to change both of those things.

A good little book. It’s obvious the author admires these two artists. He offers comparisons between the two, which sometimes seem thin, but he makes a case for their greatness.

It’s a corker, a fun read that while demonstrating there is probably nothing to connect these two masters aside from Hornby’s love, there is that nothingness, er. A lot…oh just read and enjoy
