Also very good!

This book was a fun continuation of the series, with slightly slower pacing than the previous books. I always enjoy the writer's snark and the fantastic narrator of the audiobook. And finally, in this entry to the series, the writer only objectified a woman once. Thank g-d. The story was more a police mystery than a magic showdown of the last books, but still entertaining. I do wish that the ending was a little less anti-climatic. In conclusion, this was a fun, well-written book in the series with the benefit of less objectification of women but a bit of a filler-type book.

Thankfully we had a return to the status quo with DC Peter Grant getting back to sleuthing rather than trying to have sex every other page (which I found exceedingly tedious).

In this episode we find Peter teamed back up (part time) with the eminently sarcastic Lesley. For a woman who had her fair share of problems she's list none of her rapier wit or the intelligence that Peter seems to lack on occasion. Lesley certainly gets him out of more scrapes than vice versa.

We go underground trying to find another Little Crocodile or Faceless Man groupie. Instead we come across a goblin called Zach and a tale of talent envy.

Peter is dogged throughout this by an FBI agent, his superiors and a talent for ending up damaging himself so badly he ends up in hospital which wouldn't be so bad but someone keeps eating his grapes.

There wasn't quite enough Nightingale in this book for my liking but at least Lady Ty makes an appearance as do Peter's mum and dad and a new member of the river gods clan.

Either way, whoever turns up in these books they are brilliant. The tone is funny bordering on the insanely barmy but the plots are interesting, clever and I am loving every second. Can't wait to get in with Broken Homes.

"Whispers Under Ground" on kolmas osa sarjast, kus konstaabel ja võluri õpipoiss Peter Grant lahendab mitte päris tavalist kuritegu.

Another great book, and I love that Lesley is around more.

Five minutes after finishing it and I already want to read the next one. I love this series!

Oh how I love these books.

This book continues in the wonderful world building of Peter Grant's London, and interesting and fantastical goings on within it. And this world just got more and more depth to it as this story went on as we were introduced to more elements of London that live right under our noses. And if fantasy isn't your thing, the police procedural murder mystery was tight too.

As always, the sense of place in this novel was just spot on, with me finding myself transported from summer in Australia to places in the UK I have been. There was a potential black magic cabal operating in the village where my brother and his family lives! I mean, if you've been to Henley, then you could completely believe that. And speaking of things just floating this little Australian's boat, the Underground plays a massive role in this installment (hence the title). And coming from a country were we are still trying to work out trains 200-450 years later that then UK - let alone trains that go under ground - I was incredibly happy to settle in and see where I was taken.
