For the most part this was a fun book. I genuinely enjoyed reading it for the most part, even though that is much harder to put into words than the things I didn’t enjoy. So here we go with things that bothered me:
We get it. You hated the end of Game of Thrones. Get over it! - While I really liked other parts of the book that explored fandom culture, this book was so obviously inspired by one particular show, it’s show runners and it’s fandom that I just got deeply irritated over the blatant similarities and the author basically venting their frustration about the show through this book. I probably would’ve liked that more, if it had been a little more tongue-in-cheek and less of the over the top, incompetent, mustache-twirling villain energy it gave instead.

Is it weird that a book that heavily involves fandom and fanfics reads a little like a fanfic as well? No. What is weird that this book works under some of the same assumptions about celebrities, that 13-year-old fanfic authors also work under. Marcus and April basically spend the first half of the book being stalked and photographed by professional paparazzi and random bystanders alike. All of it to a frankly unbelievable degree, for the level of fame that Marcus supposedly has. The book also started out with a random reporter being able to bother actors practically on set?

This one didn’t hit with me. I liked that it’s very clearly GoT fanfic, especially knowing how much GRRM hates fanfic, but otherwise it was odd. The characters felt underdeveloped and juvenile, the plot was fairly predictable, and the last scene was just so out of left field it left me very confused (unless I missed something).

Okay, I loved this book. It's nerdy and sexy and I don't even care that it's unrealistic - it's a fiction romance! I love the focus on fanfiction and uprooting fatphobia. I definitely need a physical copy.

I am admittedly not VERY into contemporary romance but this premise sounded cool so I gave it a shot. I really liked the first third or half maybe, the whole setup and beginning parts of their relationship, but it kind of dragged when all that was left was for lies to be revealed. I also felt like the conflicts with each of their parents weren't integrated enough with the rest of the plot and weren't fleshed out enough. I did really like the characters and the snippets of their conversations and fanfic though, that was well done.
