Loved this book! contemporary romance done RIGHT! Well formed characters that pass the Bechtel test, diverse bodies, and an ode to love centered on who a person is. full of men who have been to therapy and women willing to accept nothing less. this will have you holding your hand to your heart and feeling every word.
I always associate specific authors with specific characteristics about their writing. For Olivia Dade, it's the depth of emotion she gives her characters. Dade also writes about the lived experiences of fat people with such honesty and reality that the reader just feels so...seen.
April is a geologist who writes fan fic in her free time. Marcus is the star of the show about which April writes fan fic. He also writes fan fic and the two are unknowingly best friends in their writing forum.
I loved the relationship aspect of this romance, but the show details and fan fic portions were often difficult to follow. I considered DNF-ing this book, but Marcus and April were quite compelling. He just adores her and it was so well written. I'll continue with the series đ

When the world is getting you down and you just need a break in the gray skies of spring in Minnesota, a little romance goes a long way and Olivia Dadeâs âSpoiler Alertâ brought just the right amount of joy and sunlight.
The context of âSpoiler Alertâ is an enduring one that isnât often explored in mainstream romance novels and I applaud Dade for venturing into the world of epic ânerdâ fandom, fanfic and cosplay. Dade weaves the lifestyle masterfully into the romance narrative so that even this reader who has only ever skirted the edges of the community, could join in the fun, joy and fellowship that is fandom in all its glory.
Though it's a core context for this love story, fandom does not overshadow or override the physical attraction nor the inner turmoil of our main characters Marcus and April. In various stages of self-acceptance these two push and pull each other and Dade masterfully maneuvers their inner wrestlings and external pressures to create believable tension and conflict. Dade doesnât shy away from difficult conversations between her characters nor with her audience as she explores issues such as learning disability stigma, fat-shaming and the emotional costs of social media.
Hollywood and the television industry isnât an environment I am drawn towards in my romance novels but Dade makes it believable and enjoyable while pushing the stereotypes and consequences of life in the limelight. If you enjoy the Hollywood angle you will appreciate this love story and the endearing and complex characters Dade has crafted.

Fun, sexy, enough tension, enough twists, a wonderful fat heroine and a hero who loves her just as she is and because of all she is.
Love the representation but I feel like I couldnât really get into Marcus back story all his trauma just felt like we didnât dig hard enough
Fan fic romance. Celebrity and geologist. It was ok.
