Books 2 and 3 in this series were amazing. This tale was incredible... both facing insecurities and abusive parents. LOVED.

I don’t know how I feel about this book. I should have loved it, but I struggled to get through it and I still can’t pinpoint why. The writing was good, characters were well defined and had clear story arcs. There was some deception, which isn’t my favourite, but the author handled it in a way that made sense. Basically, the book checked off a lot of my boxes, so why was it so hard to get through?

In terms of character development, the book was thorough. Maybe that’s the problem, it was TOO thorough? Is there such a thing?? It felt like the author sat down and really analyzed her characters and made sure to tell us exactly what their motivations were and how they got from Point A to Point B for every possible issue. While the book was a good character study, It was telling us instead of showing us and maybe that’s why it didn’t have all the magic I had hoped for.

That said, I’m sure I will still read Alex’s story!
