This book was Amazing!! My first book by Lisa Genova, and will be reading the other two as soon as possible! I loved the author’s usage of words to describe each scene in detail, which puts you in the setting as if you were experiencing its first hand-- from the items in a room, the senses, feelings, touch – making it so real and powerful!

This was a poignant, powerful, and heartfelt story of two women--their paths crossing at a time with strength from each other without knowing it. Olivia, mother of an autistic son trying to make peace of her son’s brief life, and Beth a mother of three who has just found out her husband was cheating and how to deal with his unfaithfulness and move on or learn to trust again with unconditional love.

I loved the setting in Nantucket which is one of my favorites and the fact both women had a creative past and now seeking solitude. Beth a writer and Olivia a photographer and former editor-both having given up their passion and finding it once again through this special little boy which binds the two strangers together for a life lesson. The book club, the girlfriends, the reaching inside the mind and behavior of a child with autism is a lesson for all of us that sometimes it is OK to just “Be” and not doing.

I loved all parts of the book, the characters, and most of all- the epilogue which was so eloquently written! I look forward to reading more from Lisa Genova as she has just been added to my favorite author list!

I'll be honest....I was going to give this book 3 stars up until the last 2 pages. Every page just seemed depressing, both main characters struggling with their past & current lives, a lot of sorrow. But, the perspective of autism and how parents with children with autism grieve, cope, and celebrate autism was encapsulated nicely by the end. Genova finished off this book very well.

I can’t say how much I loved this book. The characters were so real and the story was well developed. Badly written it could have been so cheesy but it was wonderful. This one will stay with me a long time.

Honestly, I was a tad disappointed after reading this. Given how much I enjoyed Still Alice and Left Neglected and how much she went into the actual condition in each, I was probably expecting too much from this one. If I had read it first, I believe I would have appreciated it more.

I have read all of Lisa Genova's books and liked Still Alice (one of my favorite books period) and Left Neglected slightly better than this one. But I finished this book with a better understanding of what parents of autistic children go through. Genova's books are well written, well researched and very readable.

This book was very difficult for me to read. I was in tears multiple times while reading, but I loved it. Usually when a well known author attempts to tackle the subject of autism, it makes me cringe because they just don't quite get it. Often, although I am a parent of a child with autism, I just can't relate to the story. Love Anthony is different. Lisa Genova gets it. I've never read about a character closer to my son than Anthony. My son Ben is 11, non verbal and severely autistic. I found myself highlighting passage after passage on my kindle, finally basking in the fact that Genova was able to put into words many of my feelings, as well as those of many other mothers of children with special needs. The book deals with the aftermath of Anthony's death, and the healing of his mother, Olivia. Set in Nantucket, it is divided into two different story lines, Olivia's, and that of another woman, Beth, who is dealing with her own family issues. Beth becomes the author of a story of a little boy with autism, but neither woman realizes how their lives are entwined. This was an excellent read.

Author Lisa Genova has parlayed her PhD in neuroscience into a most unique book genre: fiction that explores complex neurological issues (autism with this book, Alzheimer's with "Still Alice," traumatic brain injury in "Left Neglected"), but through deeply emotional and poignant story lines. As her characters in "Love Anthony" undergo turmoil, introspection and ultimately enlightenment, she, in turn, enlightens the reader on the inner workings and outward manifestations of autism.
