Odd Apocalypse

Maybe I overrated this one, but Dean Koontz is one of my favorite beach-read novelists. He's intelligent, his vocabulary doesn't "talk" down to me, and his stories are just good. I love the Odd Thomas series so much because this is a character I would like to know, and I'm going back to reread the entire series, including the ones I missed.

It's always fun to revisit my friend, Odd. Nothing deep, but as always a fun story.

"The best part of a Mr. Goodbar is not the wrapper, is it? No, and the best part of a Coke is not the can. On those nights when you lie awake, either man or boy, wondering about yourself, peeling away one layer of oddness after another, you should remember and always be grateful that the woefully imperfect person that you are, with all your contradictions and unworthy desires, is not the best of you, any more than the wrapper is the best part of a Mr. Goodbar."

Odd Thomas is the most likeable character I have ever read. Odd's light tone and unshakeable morality makes the book uplifting despite the fact that this book has depraved villains who do filthy things.

I gave the book one star because I don't like reading about people who do truly evil things--not just trying to "destroy the world with a death ray," but being unforgiveably cruel to other people. However, it is my own fault for choosing to read this book. I suspect that Koontz populated this book with truly evil people so that the juxtaposition would highlight Odd's morality.

Whenever I read an Odd book, I always feel encouraged and hopeful, almost like I'm listening to a friend tell a story. Although the plot of this book wasn't what I hoped for, Odd himself is a delightful narrator.

There’s nothing about this book that I really loved. The plot was okay. This is one of the most detailed villains in the series which was interesting, but the sci-fi elements were confusing and took away from the real evil. I expected this series to be much more supernatural than sci-fi

I just adore Odd. Annamaria is still an unknown companion. I like her, but there's definitely a whole lot more to her than meets the eye.

This was an interesting situation Odd finds himself in. I enjoyed the story, but it was definitely "out there" on the supernatural scope of things.

Overall, it was great to take a trip through one of Odd's journeys.

No likey. Boring, confusing jumbled mess of sci fi and supernatural. Emphasis on sci fi. My eyes frequently glazed over with the crazy long, boring descriptions. Would never read this again.

What can I say? It's Odd on another adventure. :-)

I might be alone in my opinion about "Odd Apocalypse." I loved it! What an interesting read. I enjoyed it the way I enjoyed the first installment of the Odd Thomas series. A definite read for lovers of Odd and Dean Koontz.

This installment of Odd Thomas takes a while to get started, but once it does it's very much a page turner. Loved it!

I wanted to read the first book in the series.  I had read it years ago.  And, I got sucked into finishing the series.  I’m not a big Dean Koontz fan at all but liked this series.
