Odd Apocalypse

More frightening this time and keeping me intrigued about how Odd will keep the world from ending. Also can't wait to see what A. Hitchcock needs to travel on. Glad too that Odd shows the reader what it means to have integrity.

Odd, as always, a winner.

this might be my favorite Odd Thomas book. very dark. love the sci-fi spin we're getting in the series.

More like a 2.5 star. I love the Odd series but this one was too something...too weird wouldn't be right because ALL the books are weird...let's say too far-fetched, but that doesn't exactly cover it. I just didn't enjoy this book as much as the others in the series.

LOVE this series! A different kind of horror, not just blood and gore, and it makes you think... Where else can you read a horror book and learn about Nikola Tesla?! Odd is a favorite character of mine. I collect quotes and I always find several in the Odd Thomas books...

Took me a year to finish this book.

I feel like Dean Koontz has a gift for creating wonderfully chilling and beautiful setups, but not really following through on those set ups. The first half of this book was thrilling, you know, as thrillers should be, the eerie location, the visions, the strange monsters/beings/who knows what, but like once he started describing those monsters, among other things, the mysticism fell away pretty quickly. It went from a well crafted paranormal mystery to a, quite frankly, immeasurably dense and convoluted over the top science fiction story, you know, with some disturbing depravity and weirdly sexual themes tossed in too just for the heck of it.
Plus, the "big reveal/plot twist" might just be the most obvious thing I've ever read, especially with the "stretched out sideways eight"that's everywhere, like you think you're being slick, Koontz? You think I don't know what an infinity symbol is?

Anyway, this took me much longer to read than usual, and is probably my least favourite of the series so far because despite some issues with the others, I was still able to speed through them, but you know it still gets three stars because Odd Thomas is a very likable character, I'm still intrigued by the mystery of Annamaria, and like I said, the setup was good, great even, if only the payout was equally as great. Because I want to read about a young man who can see ghosts! I don't want to read about
Spoiler weird hybrid pig monsters with axes and clubs from the future

For me, it had a bit of a slow start, but by the end, I loved it. A typical Odd Thomas novel with some new exciting characters!

Maybe the length of time between Odd books is why but it took awhile to get into it. I liked it and felt more affection to it towards the end. Hope the next in the series doesn't take quite as long!
