My book club still laughs at how bad this book was.

I don't know why, but this book took me over a year to fully finish. It was a well written book that I read at the wrong time. I did enjoy it, but won't rate it due to how long it took me to read.

I really enjoyed reading this book. At it's core it's an adventure story of a woman who refuses to give up on her desire to explore the world and live her life even if that means making a deal with the devil. The writing style is very poetic and it sucks you in. I was really absorbed in the story and found myself really rooting for Addie.
At the same time, there are certain slumps in the book where I got bored. The writing style tends to get repetitive and I found myself getting a little frustrated with the circular and repetitive sentences. They didn't always carry the dramatic effect that was intended.
I also found it hard to understand Luck and Addie's relationship. I think the author changed that to drive the plot rather than build it up over time. But I guess that's what romance demands as a genre where the semantics and details don't matter as much as the end does. I also struggled to understand the reason why Henry chose what he did. The last two sections of the book are not as great as the rest of it. There was pretty good build up but the ending was meh.
All in all, loved the writing, enjoyed the story and glad I read this book. It oscillates between corny and poetic.

Such a beautiful story. I honestly didn’t think there could be an ending that wrapped up all the loose ends and didn’t upset me, but I was very pleasantly surprised.
