I can't remember if there is a trigger warning at the beginning of this book, but it definitely needs one.
The book is good. It's suspenseful and builds the characters well. You can pretty much guess who did it from the beginning, but you want to find out how. Strong content warning regarding sexual violence and assault. Some very heavy topics. The story is written well and I enjoyed the book.

Okay first of all, this book was addictive! Once I started, I literally could not put it down. I think I stayed up most of the night the day I started it. It was that thrilling. There were so many twists and turns, secrets revealed, and shocking events.
Do not go into this one lightly. This book has so many trigger warnings and it is incredibly graphic. If that doesn’t bother you, then I totally recommend it! However, it is definitely not for everyone.

I loved the character development, cliffhangers at the ends of chapters, and the unpredictability of this story. The author did an amazing job with every aspect of it. I really want to check out some of her other books now!

This is my first time reading a Karin Slaughter book. While it was gripping and thrilling and had had me only the edge of my seat, it’s not a light read in my opinion. So be aware cause I foolishly went into the blind.

This book was solid at the beginning but it did not keep my interest well once I learned what was happening. I’m not that interested in family dramas and that is mainly what this book is. I wish the author was more focused on the mystery element and not revealing it until the end of the book. The crimes were also very brutal to read about. However, i did finish this book because I wanted to see if justice would be served.

Karin Slaughter is one of the best in the crime fiction genre, and this is one of her best efforts. After only a couple chapters you find yourself thinking WTF? The book begins with what appears to be a diary entry by the father of a young woman who disappeared several years in the past. Was she abducted, or did she run away? Subsequent chapters introduce Claire and her husband Paul. Claire seems to be your average upper class thirty-something woman, married to a wealthy man, enjoying a charmed life. But almost immediately you find out she had recently come off of house arrest for some crime. So immediately you start asking yourself what crime and what does it have to do with the story? Then you are introduced to Lydia, a single woman with a dog grooming business, a teenage daughter and a boyfriend who wants to move in. And just as quickly you find out Lydia has maintained several years of sobriety after spiraling into substance abuse in her teens.

The big event that causes the tension to ratchet up is Paul's murder in an Atlanta back alley while Claire is watching in horror. Then thieves break into Claire and Paul's house while Claire is at his funeral. Without going into detail, further shocking events occur and very quickly Claire is caught up in a mess beyond her control and she starts to wonder who can she trust? At the same time readers are wondering how do Lydia and the missing young woman fit into this picture?

This book kept me on pins and needles til the end. Slaughter does an exceptional job weaving all the disparate plot pieces together by introducing new facts at just the right moments. If you like thrillers or crime fiction this is a book for you. Be forewarned that there is some very graphic, sadistic violence.

After hearing such good things about this book, I decided to pick it up. It should have come with a trigger warning about how dark it is. The book is well written with some really great twists.
