Thought it'd take longer for the plot to get started but this book surprised me.

'Frieren: Beyond Journey's End' by Kanehito Yamada is an engaging fantasy manga that tells the story after the main story is over. Frieren was part of a party that defeated the big bad in their world. We pick up her story after all of the action and battles and after one of her party members has passed away. As an elf, Frieren is not used to time passing like it does for humans and so as her party members begin to age and pass away, she starts to question her place in the world.
What a fantastic first volume. We get to see Frieren as she begins, distant from the people around her but seeking out her future. Through small, impactful moments with her apprentice, she begins to grasp the truth of a human life and of those that she traveled with in the past. If this author can create such meaningful moments in just the first volume, I cannot wait to see what they do throughout the series.

For how little that happens, the message is deep.  Time (for humans) is fleeting.  Cherish what you can while you can.

Made me tear up, will probably read the next volume.
