Chefs kiss. JTG is just writing exactly for me, I guess. No it’s not some deep complex layered storytelling, but that’s not what I’m looking for when I pick up Mafia romance. It’s a great balance of badass FMC and MMC whose kryptonite is the FMC and there’s still a plotline among the smut. I love it

Carnal Urges is the second book in the Queen and Monster Series by J.T. Gessinger. It can be read as a standalone, but best read after Ruthless Creatures to provide a deeper backstory for the two main characters. Carnal Urges picks up where Ruthless Creatures ends - with Sloane being kidnapped and carted off by Declan, who is high up in the Irish mob in Boston. Declan believes Sloane is responsible for getting some of his men killed and plans on either killing her as punishment or using her as leverage against the Russian mob (Kage from Ruthless Creatures). What Declan doesn’t realize is that Sloane has her own powerful voodoo and he might not make it out unscathed.
Holy hell this book is EVERYTHING! What a freaking rollercoaster of ride! The smexy, the sass, and ALL the feels! The storyline starts with a bang and literally does not stop. Eventually the story ends, but really, you’re just left with wanting more of the two of them. The banter between Sloane and Declan is freaking fantastic and literal foreplay. Sloane is my new hero. She’s wonderful! She’s fearless, impulsive, and completely unflappable, but still manages to be thoughtful and considerate. And her mouth… it just does. Not. Stop. She had me laughing out loud non-stop while her tongue shredded everyone in sight. You almost felt bad for Declan having kidnapped her, lol. Declan was really the only man for Sloane and it shows pretty quickly. Declan is a lot more layered than he seems, is really smart, and NOT used to people challenging him. It takes a little bit, but he eventually figures out what makes Sloane tick and knows she’s the one for him. He understands her needs and appreciates all the things about her that made her, her. I wish we had a little more insight about what made Declan tick, but overall, super happy with the character development. If you’re looking for an action-packed, super steamy page turner, you can’t go wrong with Carnal Urges!
