Talk about spicy! I can’t say I didn’t enjoy it but in a way I actually thought it was a bit much. I was a little unsure of the poly theme at first because I am a romantic at heart but eventually it grew on me and I was equally obsessed with each guy. Still a lot different than what I normally read but I saw the appeal and needed to see how everything turned out. What I didn’t like so much was the spice overpowered the actual plot. There was very little storyline but the bits we got I wish it had more context and depth instead of just fluff to get to the next sex scene. I liked each of the guys and wish I got more of each of them, especially Caleb and Ilmary considering I did read the prequel so I knew a bit more about Jake. Nothing about this is realistic to me but it’s hot and if you’re looking for smut this is the perfect read for you!

I tried. I really did. But this book was absolutely garbage. I read That One Night a couple months ago and enjoyed it. I went into this book excited to see how things would play out. Now I have to say I was very surprised when it was discovered that Jake was going to be her patient. Thankfully that didn’t end up happening which allowed for Jake, Rachel, and Kaleb to boink each other ethical violation free. HOWEVER when Illmari came into the picture as a love interest and that plot armor HR contract was never brought up. I was uncomfortable! Not only is this a dual relationship but she shared his medical information with Kaleb and Jake! Has this bitch never heard of HIPPA!!! I was a Registered Behavior Technician, no where near and medical doctor but we had to do extensive training on ethics and HIPPA! With my bachelor’s in psychology… I had to learn about… you guessed it… HIPPA AND ETHICS. If that was beat into my head it had to have been into hers. So the fact that she continued in a dual relationship with Illmari made my skin crawl! I know that it’s fiction it shouldn’t matter. Especially since her entire job is fake considering that Doctors of physical therapy/physical therapist who work with professional hockey teams are not permitted to provide stitches or emergency care! That is the job of the medical physician also employed by the pro team. This book should have been marketed as high fantasy! But hey, who am I to talk since I’ve enjoyed boss x assistant tropes which come with their own ethical violations. Now  my next issue is still with little miss Rachel. Oh how I wish it stopped at being annoying. She is manipulative and abusive! She engages in this poly relationship which started with Jake and Kaleb. She begins to have feelings for Illmari but doesn’t tell her partners. Now I’m not an expert in polyamory but communication and trust is the foundation of EVERY type of relationship. The guys confront her about it and decide to play “sudden death” where they share all of their feelings. Jake and Rachel start confessing their love for each other which was weird considering it had barely been a month but whatever. Kaleb on the other hand wasn’t saying anything, which is normal. Some people need more time or show love in different ways. How did little miss Rachel handle this situation. She throws a bowl of food at him, forces her bare breasts on to him, kiss him, and then slap him across the face. Now if they had a conversation about wanting to engage in pain play or they had a clear discussion of their comfortability with CNC. There would be no problems BUT there was no such conversation. Which means that this was abuse and SA. From there everything she did was wrong and disgusting. So to get to the epilogue and the first paragraph is people cheering for her… and saying that their relationship is love or Price is love! Get fucked! Thank you!

The best thing about this book is the fan fiction ending I’ve created! Jake, Kaleb, and Illmari all realize that Rachel is toxic, abusive, and manipulative. The three of them leave her! Jake and Kaleb stay together, eventually getting married. They decide to make a foundation/hockey program based on inclusivity in the hockey. It provides kids from all different backgrounds (race, gender expression, economic status) an opportunity to get into the collegiate hockey programs or NHL. Illmari helps with the program as well. Jake and Kaleb who are happily married use a surrogate to have children. Illmari who is trying to get over Rachel, falls in love with Kay and Jake’s surrogate!! In my head the surrogate is a tall black woman who is the Pom/dance coach at UNF or whatever in world college equivalent.

Ooooooooooh boy.
This book helped me out of a reading slump and checked a lot of boxes for me.

Unsure if I’ll read more in this series but I’d visit the Jacksonville Rays anytime 🥵🥵

Very explicit and graphic sexual description. Not for people who don’t like VERY smutty books.
