This book kept me hooked, but I admit not knowing who the victim was for the longest time ended up almost being too much to me, so I almost stopped reading. There were threads all around pulling the narrative in all sorts of different directions and withholding that information until it was almost too annoying felt like a bold choice from the author, which makes me interested reading other works from this author.
Still, I couldn’t help but like Savana and Jesse, which honestly surprised me, and made me read it until the end. I was interested in them and kept hoping it wasn’t him the victim.

I totally would read more from this author.

I really enjoyed the plot and characters but I got confused sometimes with switching povs and I felt like the pacing was a little slow

I flew through this in an afternoon and I had a decent time with it, but at the same time it felt kind of...surface level? Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the fact that it starts with a death and then jumps back several months to do the set up. Not knowing who was dead was a fabulous way to keep me hooked. I did get kind of lost in the second half but I think that's probably less to do with the book and more to do with the fact that teenagers kept distracting me so I wasn't giving the book my full attention. Probably I should have jumped back a few pages and tried again, but here we are.

I picked this up for light reading so I didn't go in with any expectations. I loved the before section and learning about the 5 people mainly featured, particularly Raf (I hope I spelt that right, I audiobooked it). The after section felt really dragged tho and I don't know if it's just me but I didn't like having such a small number of suspects bc it dampened down the suspense for me. But overall, it was fine.

2.5⭐️ i like how the book started right at the moment when the murder takes place and immediately you want to know what happens. it's then split into 2 parts - part 1 lays out the events leading up to the murder and part 2 is post murder. i really liked how the police interview transcripts, articles and text threads were woven throughout the book.

HOWEVER, i found majority of these multimedia snippets provided nothing of value. the plot was just coasting and there was no sense of urgency to want to find out who did it (i did urgently want to finish it because it got boring).

the cast of 6 characters were just empty shells of a human being with zero personality (especially owen and freddie lol). this book was similar to one of us is lying, which i didn't like at all. but i feel like the characters in that book were a bit more fleshed out in terms of their back story.
