I walked into this book expecting it to be sad and you expect for me not to shed any tears right? Wrong! I was definitely tearing up especially towards the end. I just don't even know how to explain my thoughts towards this book. In the beginning it felt like something I'd read for school so I got a little nervous but I should learn to be patient because I just started the book at that point. I like how this author attempts to tackle the concept of heaven into his own interpretation. And the way he incorporates the people that main character has encountered is genius. There so many shocking moments in this book too. Ughhhhh I can't really express how this book made me feel into words but just know I thought it was great. I'm literally about to read the second one right now!

There is one thing that bugged me though
on the third person part where he is suppose to forgive his dad for his father's abuse kinda didn't sit right with me. Also the scene where his mother was sexually assaulted and the third person, Ruby was excusing Mickey's actions because he was drunk and sad cuz he got laid off of a job. Like what?! If I didn't like the previous parts of the book and wasn't so stubborn I would've put it down.

Meh. Was hard for me to get through. Don’t think I’ll read part 2. In the beginning the story was fine and I do understand what the story is trying to convey, but I didn’t really like the characters, stories or writing style. The book makes some weird points about life, but also some beautiful ones, I just don’t think the good outweighed the bad (for me).

there are some definitive flaws (one of which being albom’s gross simplification of his woman characters) but this book will always have a really soft spot in my heart that may or may not be clouded by nostalgia

I have never read a book like this before and honestly I wasn’t expecting to love it as much as I did. The life lessons in this book literally changed my whole perspective on the world, on my family and friends, the people who used to be in my life and all of the complete strangers who I have no recollection of ever meeting.
Eddie made me cry so many times and I really felt for him and everything he had to go through in his life.
The message I took away from this book is that every single life is connected to one another wether we realise it or not, and it further highlights the importance of ‘TPWK’.
(I thought about Harry a lot in the book, he would definitely be one of my 5 people.)

Unlike the last book I read, this story begins with an end. 83-year-old Eddie meets his demise at the bottom of an amusement park ride, Freddy’s Free Fall. He is quickly whisked away in a blinding flash of light. As the title implies, he meets five people in heaven. Along the way, they help him to rediscover and understand his life’s purpose. The ending tied up the story’s loose ends perfectly and made me enjoy it more than I initially expected. I’ll give it a five. 😊

It’s just ok. Nothing too complicated to read or anything. There are however a lot of difficult passages that require a trigger warning. I also didn’t like that it seemed like one character justified SA.
Read it for school

Eddie is an elderly, injured war veteran who believes he has had a life devoid of inspiration. In a theme park beside the shore, he fixes rides. On his 83rd birthday, while attempting to save a young girl from a falling wagon, he tragically perishes in an accident. He discovers that paradise is not a place when he awakens in the afterlife. There, five individuals—some of whom you knew and others who may have been strangers—explain your life to you. Eddie's five companions each reflect on their relationships to him throughout a different stage of his life, from youth to soldier to senior citizen, shedding light on his life's riddles and revealing the answer to the question "Why am I here?"

The synopsis is about the only thing you need to know before starting this book, in my opinion. I'd be dishonest if I said it didn't address some of the questions about life, even though it didn't address all of them. It was incredibly lovely; possibly one of the nicest books I've ever read.
