This novel felt so much like a sacred text that it is hard for me to critique it.
However, I’m a good critic of many sacred texts so maybe that comparison isn’t apt.
In any case, for those of you that have read this book I’ll say this much: the five people Eddie meets in heaven don’t really seem to provide “reasons” for why the events of his life occurred in the way that they did. Rather, they suggested meaning in the seemingly random events and their aftermath. More Kierkegaardian than anything.
And in any case, I loved it because it was essentially a feedback loop for me, reaffirming my deep and unwavering belief that the innate randomness of this universe down to its sub-sub-atomic particles can be an infinite source of meaning and that creating said meaning is what makes us so damn human.
(However it was definitely oversimplified in the way that all allegories must be and if I went to heaven I think I’d need to get through at least a thousand people before I even start to make sense of this interconnected complicated thing that is life.)

This could have been the best soul touching book I will ever read. It had that start, it had those middle lines which would make you think about your reasoning a second thought, but all came to a halt in the later and the end parts.
From the potential to being a great book, to being just a "good book"

Nice lil read. Lowkey not as amazing as I expected but I had high expectations. Would recommend, the concept is different and cool and introspective
