What the heck was this book? I thought that it would be a court case about a tragic event of child death… a tragic mistake…
and I was happy when there was a “not guilty”
verdict… but what we learned later… insane… just shows how countless lies lead to innocent death and ruin of lives.

I listened to this book on audiobook. The opening scene was so intense and shocking. Some parts of the book bored me a little bit, but ending was so twisty! The beginning and the ending are the best parts of this book.

4.5/5 ⭐️

This isn’t a popcorn thriller, this is a dense emotive gut wrenching story of two sisters who’ve had trauma stricken pasts which is then compounded by a horrific accident where one of their children dies with the other sister possibly to blame…

Finally got around to reading a legal thriller and it really delivered, maybe I need to seek out more of them! I was invested from the very first chapter and wooow does it start how it means to go on. It felt so realistic that you can really picture someone in this nightmare scenario and it feels like you are living it through them every step of the way. Even the court hearings felt as you’d expect with the pressing and slightly obnoxious prosecutor who cuts people off in order to ask more leading questions (maybe with a few missing objections). None of the characters were likeable but they all felt real which brought the story to life and meant I devoured the book in 2 days to see what happened.

Overall it was a guaranteed 5⭐️ up to 80-90% of the book with my mouth wide open at certain points and if it wasn’t for the last 10% it would have stayed that way. I feel the ending cheapened all the character building of one of the characters imo (without giving anything away). It feels wrong to knock off more than half a star given how incredibly written the rest of the book was!!

Whew. Now THIS is a mystery thriller!

This is the kind of shocking content I read for!!!

I also highly commend the way she writes her characters and their personalities. Each of them distinguishable and excellently narrating a diversity of experiences. I’d be so curious if she continued Detective Shepherd’s story purely based on how well she captured his acute loneliness.

This was so exceptionally written in every way.
