With a series, I can be a bit cynical - c'mon, when are these books going to get awful? Consistently a good (beach) read thus far - although the series has stopped at book 4, I think, which is really sad because there are several underlying story lines that can't be wrapped up all at once, methinks.
Picking up right where the last book left off (which I love about this series), Katie Chandler is once again thrown into the world of magic, battling Evil (even if it doesn't go by that name). This time though, she's fighting along with her new boyfriend, Owen (yay!). Now, she's also plagued with a fairy godmother. And this one is stuck in the past. Every time she tries to help, something horrible happens to Katie. And usually Owen.
Ok, so as with the other books this was quirky and fun. Just a good read for enjoyment. The only thing I didn't like was the way it ended.
******SPOILERS******
Now yes, some of this is partially because you never like it when as everything is coming back together the suddenly are apart and the main character is leaving the interesting world that she was thrown into. However, the bigger thing I don't like is that this plot event seems to happen in so many books that involve a romance. We wait and wait for the main character to get with their true love interest, we finally get it for like one book and then the main character suddenly realized that they are hindering their love interest in some way.... "I'm holding him back" or "Im putting them in danger" blah blah blah. It happens like clockwork and then in the next book we will find her trying to live her life in the "new world" after they leave the love interest and job etc. But it eventually finds her and she realizes her mistake and they can make it work. Blah Blah. And I spend that entire time while they are split being frustrated because I'm reading the same thing again, and because the main characters are always being stupid. So yeah, good book, but now we get to spend the next book walking through this annoying and predictable sequence until they get back to it in a book or two.

Day Three back from vacation and all of zen had already been sucked out of me. By that point light reading was not only justified but probably a necessity. So I continued on reading the Enchanted, Inc. series.
In Damsel Under Stress things start moving a little more. Katie's romance finally gets under way. And there is the amusing addition of a reckless fairy godmother. A very cute little story!

Katie's story continues where it left off in the previous book. Trouble follows her around and things aren't going as smoothly as she'd hoped, but she tries to make the best of everything.
She could have avoided a lot of her problems if she'd only talked to Owen, but she wants to be independent and not a damsel in distress, but she fails in that since she ends up needing to be saved, anyway.
I'm not sure I agree with her decision at the end of the book, although I understand her reasons for making it. I'm sure it's going to backfire in the next book, [b:Don't Hex with Texas|1956954|Don't Hex with Texas (Enchanted, Inc., #4)|Shanna Swendson|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1320396105s/1956954.jpg|1959935].

Once again Shanna Swendson has quenched my thirst for a fun flirty read! Damsel Under Stress is just as good as its predecessors. In the third installment of the series, there is more romantic drama/turmoil in Katie and Owen's newly burgeoning relationship. This gives the novel a more serious and substantial plot than the previous two and lends a certain atmospheric quality to the story, turning an otherwise light and fluffy read into a meaningful book. Katie and Owen have always faced adversity (mostly in the form of magic,) but in Damsel Under Stress we find that along with a deepening relationship, there are other obstacles to overcome.
Damsel Under Stress leaves the reader unsure of an ultimate happy ending. From the way events transpire in book 3, there is no telling what will happen to Katie in book 4. Despite feeling a bit cheated by the unhappy ending in Damsel Under Stress, I will continue on to see just what will happen. Shanna Swendson has created characters that I truly care about - I won't give up on them.
