tldr it's unsurprising that the scholars who consider this to be a piece of anti-colonialist literature are all white

beautiful prose and interesting psychological commentary wasted on a horrifically racist novel with a shaky plot. kurtz making himself be worshipped in the village would work as a metaphor for colonialism if the rest of the narrative wasn't constantly dropping the n word (and worse) anyway. it's a really disturbing read, the only reason I don't regret it is that I now understand just how racist colonial Europe was
