This feels too Covid-y to continue. I hope I pick it up again later because it seems like it picks up, but having to read about N95s felt too on-the-nose (despite Ma's apparent premonition of an airborne virus hitting NYC years prior to Covid)

I think I would’ve liked this book more if Covid never happened but since this story is eerily similar to what we have been experiencing…I couldn’t enjoy it as much as I wanted to 😭

i can't imagine reading (or writing LMAO) this book before covid and then ...

this book deserves a reread for me ! there were some themes touched on in a couple different ways - one that i wanna consider more is journeys: the groups journey to the facility, mc's journey to ny after college, mc's parents/mc's journey to the us as a child, and (less importantly lol) mormon ppls' journey to salt lake city where mc and her family settled after immigrating (ling ma's mention of this j helped me notice the repetition)
