I finished this book years ago, by that I don't remember which year, so my memory of this book is not the best. But I do know, that I would definitely recommend this book, it was such an emotional read that I remember it quite fondly. Overall, from what I remember of the story, is that it has a strong message of treating people equally and giving everyone a chance. This is an important message that was presented in a way that was quite graceful while also being powerful at the same time. We all deserve a chance to live a peaceful life and not to be held down by some negative stereotype that really shouldn't exist.

This book is written for kids and was published in 2017 - before COVID, before George Floyd, before the national uprisings that came in the summer of 2020. And before all of that work, energy, anger, and action faded in the face of complete institutional inaction. I read this as a story that I’ve been told is pretty good, but I don’t feel like I learned anything new from it. Maybe it’s because I’m older than the target audience, or because I spent my time in college reading Audre Lorde and Malcolm X and studying systems of inequality in the US. I’m white, I’m wildly privileged, I will never understand what it’s like to be one of these kids. But I won’t be quiet either.

Un des meilleurs livres de fiction dénonçant le racisme, j'ai aucune critique à faire à ce livre !! Les personnages sont bien développés et leurs histoires sont abouties et surtout on a une fin réaliste !

Very interesting read

The only thing that icked me was the YA-ess of it, -sometimes it was a bit cringy- and the very subtle misogyny against Iesa (slut-shaming)

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, although I had troubles with the writing style at first.

I had very high expectations for this book, and it’s not that the expectations weren’t met, it just wasn’t as good as I had expected it to be.

The message in the book is amazing, and it’s something that needs to be spread and I thing that Thomas did an amazing job with it.
