This book screams passive-aggressive.

"The Hate U Give" is unlike anything I've ever seen - it speaks of themes such as racism and police brutality, but the writing style is phenomenal and contemporary. Truly puts classics and sesquipedalian descriptions to shame.

It's about a black girl named Starr who experiences racism along with police brutality in her neighbourhood. It follows her grief, difficulties, and solutions to these problems. Oh, and she has a white boyfriend named Chris.

Despite the depressing aspects of the plot, the novel is very comedic and even light-hearted with its references and camaraderie! I haven't seen much of it in other novels, so it's definitely something new.

The characters were unique in their own ways, with archetypes such as the overprotective brother (Seven) and the annoying little brother (Sekani) featured in the novel; so you won't get bored.

The only improvement I'd suggest is to have a more fulfilling ending/denouement, because it sure left some questions unanswered at the end. Other than that, I can't find much criticism.

Angie Thomas is different. And I'm definitely coming back to her in the future!

This book is SOOOOOO AMAZING! I've been wanting to read this for a while and finally got to for a school project. This book can be related to and read by people of all types. It uses the N-word a few times as well as some cuss words, but it's not super bad. It's also a super heart-breaking story about a young girl who struggles with the death of her friend, police brutality, gang violence, relationships, and her identity around specific people. She feels like she can't always be her true self around certain people.
