Unfortunately, this lacked the charm of the first one, and I found Carmen's character incredibly immature for a woman in her early thirties.
Het vervolg op het vorig jaar uitgebrachte The Christmas Bookshop, in het Nederlands verschenen als De kerstboekwinkel. Ik heb ervoor gekozen om het boek te luisteren. Het wordt voorgelezen door Eilidh Beaton, ik gok wellicht familie van Jenny aangezien Jenny haar achternaam ook Beaton is (meisjes naam of getrouwde naam ben ik even kwijt).
In elk geval volgen we in dit boek Carmen weer. Carmen heeft het op een niet zo leuke manier uitgemaakt met Oke en Oke gaat op een expeditie naar Zuid-Amerika en vertrekt dus uit Schotland.
De boekhandel is gebruikt als filmlocatie en daar wordt in de proloog over verteld. Dan schiet het verhaal terug naar januari en volgen we zo het reilen en zeilen in de boekhandel. Jenny geeft op een leuke manier aandacht aan het feit dat er in winkelstraten van toeristische plaatsen steeds meer enkel toeristische winkels met Chinese meuk gevestigd zijn en bijna geen authentieke winkels meer. Dat vond ik leuk gedaan.
Het is een feelgood, het boek eindigt met kerst dus het loopt goed af, maar dat kost wel even tijd. Ik heb me prima vermaakt met dit boek.

This is the sequel to "The Christmas Bookshop". It was just as quaint as the first book, followed the same characters, and added in a couple new ones. This one was more heavily based around Carmen and mentions less of her sister, Sofia, and her nieces and nephews than the first book as the dynamics change. Carmen does some shop remodeling to try to make more money because there's a new hot shot in town that's trying to buy up all the stores on the block and turn them into bulk tourist shops that sell stereotypical Scottish paraphernalia 🤢 She also trys to put herself back out into the world to feel more like her age.
The part I wait for through the whole book happens at the very end, which left me feeling kind of unsatisfied. My rating for romance is 💖

Great follow up to last year’s Christmas Bookshop book. I was sad about the miscommunication between Carmen and Oakie, but he found his way back. Carmen’s growth was good, and I loved her relationship with her sister. Great start to my Christmas reading!
