Super informational and eye opening but also extremely hard to get through. The first third was the most interesting in my opinion. 10/10 read for information purposes. 2.5/10 otherwise.

An in-depth read documenting the US's shift from a traditional colonial power maintained through the ownership of large offshore colonies to a more "pointillist empire" maintained through hundreds of bases throughout the world on foreign soil. There's also a chapter all about the US's power through being the default of the world's standards for manufacturing and our domination of language throughout the world. I feel like I do consider myself well-read in terms of US history and imperialism, but I was kind of surprised that yeah, I do not think of the US beyond the standard "logo map" even as I do know that we still have oversea colonies like Puerto Rico and Guam (this is not discounting the idea that all of the US is colonized land, this is just the area of land that's not integrated into the US and considered part of the main map).

I'll read it for real when I can focus. Just too many distractions to concentrate right now.

This book was extremely informative without being dry or boring. I learned a lot and I am curious to see what else this author has written/will write!

Incredible read. Frankly I’m embarrassed how much I learned. Every mainland US citizen should read this.

An extremely engaging, informative, and well-argued book. I was constantly reminded of the depths of my own ignorance. Immerwahr's clear explanations helpfully tie together vast expanses of geography and time into a coherent story about the causes and effects of U.S. imperialism. Highly recommend this book to everyone, because, at the very least, we should all know the borders of the country we live in.
