I've missed being in a contemporary fantasy setting and this was an enthralling ride into grief, love, and old English myth/lore. It had spiritual traditions and African American history beautifully woven through in such a satisfying way. I want to go up to Tracy Deonn and just thank her for the incredible story she's given us. It felt deeply personal and magical and I am so ready to devour the next book.
It's nice to have a good-boy heartthrob as a change of pace in YA fantasy. Nick was a darling and Sel was the devilish charmer we all needed.
Bree Matthews was complex, messy, compassionate, and so strong in heart. I wish I got a bit more of her and Alice together but otherwise, this was amazing.

Ok so honestly I was not too thrilled when Nicks dad decided to kidnap Bree. I really wanted to put the book down at that point. It was the point that the old mother should have come out but she didn’t. Vera came out when Bree needed to fight, just like her mother said it would happen. Doesn’t mean watching Alice’s memories be stripped away made it any less painful.
That was important. To feel the anguish and hopelessness that Bree does. Legendborn lets it’s reader both feel what our sion does but also notice things she doesn’t until much later. Like the fact that her and Sel are so enemies to lovers that it hurts. I’m not saying Nick is a good guy but in a story so much about generational trauma it seems like she can’t follow that path. With Nick gone and Sel letting her in I hope we see their relationship take form. I know it most likely won’t end up that way but you never know.

The beginning was very hard to get through. But once you do the story gets good and leaves you on a cliff hanger wanting more. Can’t wait to start book two.

This was amazing! I’m so happy I read it. The cover is stunning. I read it as a library loan but I’m going to buy it pronto I need it on my shelf. Can’t wait for book 2! Bree was awesome and I’m excited to see her growth. I was confused with the almost love triangle but I don’t know if that’s what it is.
