I was not expecting to like the story about Vanessa as much as I did. Fejo is great and Vanessa turned out to be better than she is in the other books. A great story and a quick read!

Lots to dig in with this book! I have been anxiously waiting for Fejo to get his own story and he does not disappoint-he is amazing! And I love when a grumpy/sunshine dynamic features a sunshiny man. He is honestly such a great main character that I felt like Vanessa gets  a bit lost/I didn't really care for her character. She's very stuck on the idea of going home, but it's to the point where other faucets of her personality sort of wither and die off. She's in a box and I was hoping since it was already well established (in previous books) how much she wanted to go back to Earth that we'd get some more variety from her. By the time she starts to show more animation and range, it's the end of the book. But Fejo is really the reason for 4 stars. His personality saves hers.

The general storyline is pretty exciting and interesting. Aveline mixes things up again by allowing us off planet! I do hope that the background plot of this gets expanded on later because it felt somewhat rushed at the end with everything that was fit into the last chapter and epilogue. I had some logistics questions at the end, though.

CW: childhood abuse, terminal illness and death of parent, mention of foster care system, parental abandonment, human trafficking, kidnapping
