This a fun little read.
I really tried to give this book a chance, not wanting to leave a series unfinished. But the constant mood shifts and weird inconsistencies concerning the way characters act even within the first 13% was putting me off.
Spoilers for the first 13%The very powerful spymaster didn't consider that people needed proof besides 2 peoples word that there was another person who could be queen. Kianthe is apparently so uninterested or careless that she doesn't care how her actions cause her partner stress when planning a wedding (and don't say ADHD as an excuse because that's not how that works). And then the final straw for me was when, after talking about some people in the Queendome choosing to believe in no diety at all, Reyna's inner thoughts are the following.
Spoilers for the first 13%
"In the Queensguard, they struck down disbelievers as heretics, especially in the Capital. The Gods still commanded the Grand Palace. To think it might be different elsewhere in the Queendom was … disconcerting. "
Implying that Reyna is pro striking down disbelievers? I'm sorry but that's is not a protagonist I can get on board with. Her thoughts about nonbinary people felt weird in the first two books but this is just over the edge for what I personally want to read about
