🔥 3/5
❤️ I loved it when they finally were at the Horde and the story began to focus on their relationship
đź’” I feel like this book focused more on the adventure/dark plot vs the relationship of the couple

Content Warnings: Ableism, child abuse, sexual scenes, physical/verbal abuse, sexual assault, torture, loss of a parent, and mention of miscarriage/stillborn birth/death during childbirth.

I think my favorite part of this series is that all the Horde Kings are these Alphas, mostly Alphahole’s, who try so hard to fight the attraction they have to their future wives. Seems like each one of them has just been like “we’re getting married because we have to” or “we’re getting married because it’s how I’m going to punish you” but they ALL would move heaven and earth for the women they love.

The denial of attraction and love always has me laughing. The hordes can all see how smitten their Kings are…like EVERYONE can see how much the couple cares for each other but one, or both, will continue to deny deny deny.

Both Mina and Wrune have lived hard lives and both lost their mothers young. Where Mina’s father still raised her with love Wrune’s father was so destroyed by the death of his wife [she died in childbirth] that he was cold and cruel to Wrune. Wrune’s father was driven to ensure his son became a strong leader to make the loss of his wife worth it. Really messed up to raise a child in a way that the child knows their living parent blames them for the loss of their dead one.

The overarching plot that’s been woven through each book is getting really interesting and intense. I look forward to reading more to see what all comes about. Having read the first 5 books now I struggle to pick who my favorite couple is…I want to say it’s a tie between the first couple [book one gave so many good Kal Drogo and Daenerys vibes] and the fourth couple [childhood friends who mutually pined but due to misunderstanding don’t get together until adulthood…always gets me].

Mina and Rowin (not using his given name because that is for people to find out while reading) have my entire heart. One of my favorite reads of 2022 so far.

This book has so much angst that I was in pain and crying for 2/3 of it. My heart broke for Mina and then it broke for Rowin. But these two truly were meant for one another from the moment they saw one another.

I enjoyed that there was a switch in power dynamics throughout the book, but the way they’re equals by the end is my favorite thing.

4/5 on the spicy scale. Although you don’t get spice until halfway through and they haven’t emotionally come together yet, their sex was hot as hell. Get you a partner who loves oral.
