First off, despite the advertising, this is not a romance book. Not even a little bit really. I don’t hate anyone but I don’t really like anyone either. The beginning was INCREDIBLY SLOW, after the hook up it picks up a bit then slows again, the main conflict doesn’t start until page 143. Before that’s it’s mostly just Nandan’s random escapades but then they break up and becomes dull again- like I skimmed the last like...50 pages bc I was just...talk. Nothing really happened. Just uneventful parties and conversation without substance. I love the concept but the execution wasn’t anything to write home about- it didn’t really make me feel anything.
I don’t understand the “Nandan is so controversial” or “Dave was mistreated the entire book” comments ppl make in their reviews though. Nandan is flawed but he isn’t this controversial person everyone seems to think he is and literally when was Dave ever mistreated? Nandan did everything in Dave’s best interest.

one of the most brutally honest and realistic explorations of romance, sexuality, friendships, anxiety etc i’ve read in a ya book
i don't think i've ever rated a book 1 star but this just. what the fuck is this ??? firstly, does the author even know what bisexuality or even asexuality is ??? nandan was So problematic and manipulative and being gay was treated as a trend between all the characters (characters that had No Depth) and the writing style was just. so bad
I genuinely don’t know what to rate this book. In some ways I loved how messy and problematic it was because I feel like it truly represented my high school experience and felt way more realistic to me than many books that have unproblematic MC’s. I’ve been Dave in a relationship where my partner was questioning their sexuality and it sucks for everyone involved, but it’s a very real situation and this book captures the confusion and hurt really well.
My largest criticism is that the ending felt incomplete. I really don’t know what I wanted from the ending but it wasn’t the weird turn around at the end. It felt like the MC was rewarded for all his shit. It’s completely okay to question your sexuality but it’s not okay to toy and hurt people while doing it. I thought that was going to be the “lesson” at the end but instead the MC just got a happy ending with really no consequences.
So final thoughts: this book was a problematic mess, but in a way that felt very real for high schoolers who are questioning their sexuality

I felt extremely uncomfortable while reading this book and so much find't click with me
DNF about 50 pages in i think and i skipped to the end to see what just happened spoiler alert i still dont know what in gods name was happening in this book but like Bruh this literally gave me a headache to read the writing style is so disjointed and confusing but i could have forgiven that if it werent for the homophobia lowkey sexism and other sus things going on no thank you none for me I thought i was gonna get a wholesome mlm romance of a book from the lovely cover and description about a boy accepting his queer identity but instead i got idek how to describe this other than n o

its alright. story has been done, and this one doesnt add anything new to the questioning teen narrative and then leaves too many things unexplained.
favorite line: the whole trains scene lol
brief summary: nandan hooks up with his friend dave over the summer and didn’t even realize he was into boys. however, later, he realizes he maybe isn’t even into it at all. how will he deal with it? angst, of course.
