Best book on French culture I’ve read yet. It selves deep and is well researched, including lots of additional sources to look up in the notes section. A must-read for any Francophile.

So much fun! This book explains a lot about French culture and language - I found myself saying "ah-ha!" over and over again. I love France and take every opportunity to go there but still have what I consider odd interactions now and again. This book helped me understand many of these odd interactions.

The writing is great and was a pleasure to read. If you like France or are curious this is a must-read.

Read this to prepare for an upcoming Europe trip. Has similar vibes to the book 'Watching the English'. More detailed than I expected given the title.

A really interesting and surprisingly expansive introduction to French conversational and cultural nuances, rules and expectations that most of us would otherwise have to learn the hard way.

"The Bonjour Effect: The Secret Codes of French Conversation Revealed" by Julie Barlow and Jean-Benoît Nadeau turned out to be super interesting. I could easily engage in a lengthy conversation based upon their many observations about what the French talk about when they talk French. If I learned nothing else, apparently one can't say 'Bonjour' enough. And, an absent 'Bonjour' will bring all to a halt. Worth the read.

I wish this book was out four years ago when I moved to France! A must-read for 'les anglo-saxons' living in this country.
