I was admittedly swayed to read this because Ernaux won the Nobel Prize for literature this year. I can now see why- she dissects her memories with startling intensity and intelligence. This unflinching recounting of her illegal abortion in 1960s France is unsettling, strangely beautiful, chilling. I will definitely be reading more of her work.
