This is my first book from this author. It was a little slow going for me but I liked the banter between Dani and Lincoln and just the way Dani spoke to everyone even though she was mute. Some of the storyline was hard for me to follow with how everyone was connected but overall all good story about love, overcoming obstacles, learning to allow others in your life, and second chances.
This is a brand new series from Rachel Van Dyken. Can I get a YAY!? This is a Seaside Series cross-over, but you don't have to have read that series to thoroughly enjoy Capture! It's a complete standalone. Rachel writes serious topics with humor like no other author can. Dani lost her parents and her ability to speak. She's no longer the fun, carefree seventeen year old girl that she was. Not only can she not talk, she eats just to survive and is afraid to leave the house. Her sister is worried about her so she makes her take a job as assistant to Hollywood heartthrob Lincoln Greene. Lincoln is sexy, funny and isn't bothered that she can't speak. He thinks she's beautiful and funny, but she's seventeen. She's illegal and her brother in law and her best friends (AD2) threaten to kill him and feed him to seals if he touches her.
After an on screen kiss the sparks fly and Linc can't seem to stay away from Dani. Can he be the one to bring her back? Will Dani take a chance and try to live again? The witty banter between Lincoln and Dani is hilarious! The boys, Alec and Demetri are back and funnier than ever. Enter Zane, the marshmallow eating, no shirt wearing friend, and you have the perfect story! I laughed a lot. I cried and I want more!
"But…" I leaned against the counter. "…you see, that's like the opposite of my personality - I care, I worry. I'm like a girl, only in the body of a really hot guy."
"Kissing you regardless of if it's the second, third, fourth time. Even if it's during a scene, and I'm acting. It always feels like the most real thing in my existence."
"You're kind of great, you know that, right?"
"Not nearly as great…" He kissed me with exquisite tenderness. "…as you."

I have to say that Rachel Van Dyken is one of my favorite authors. She does an amazing job of bringing characters to life and really bringing her books to another level emotionally.
This being said I loved Captured. Captured is about a girl who doesn’t speak. After too much pain and loss, Dani shuts down and her voice goes away. Already living an unusual life as her sister is marrying into the rich and fame and she’s best friends with a popular boy band, it seems it can’t get any weirder.
Then enters Lincoln. Who if he looks like the pics below, he is super hot and drool worthy. Lincoln needs a personal assistant and Dani is volunteered for the job to get her out of her funk. Little do Lincoln and Dani know, they are one of those perfectly imperfect couples who learn to heal with each other. This really changes Dani’s world in some big ways (that I can’t mention without spoiling the book ;).
I thought the plot line for this book was really cute sounding and I liked the idea of having a main character who couldn’t talk. It just seemed really interesting and I really liked learning some of the reasons behind her muteness. Rachel did a great job of making Dani seem just like any other girl but with high-level friends and a mouth that didn’t talk. It was pretty easy to connect with her story and get really interested in what was going to happen next. There were a few moments that I expected and then quite a few that I didn’t see coming.
I really enjoyed the characters of this book and how there were glimpses of previous main characters too. I found Dani to be super chill and I loved how she didn’t freak out about the whole celebrity thing or tries to maneuver her way into Lincoln’s good graces. Everything that happened wasn’t some con to date a celebrity, it was simply two people falling in love and having to work through their pasts.
I do have to say that my favorite character wasn’t Dani or Lincoln, it was a whole other character introduced into this book. I absolutely adored him and I can’t wait to hear his story. The Saint will definitely steal your heart! My fingers are crossed that the next book is about him!
Overall this book was pretty amazing. The characters were great and I loved how light and fun this read was. Yet it wasn’t too much where the sugary sweetness of the book overwhelmed me, instead it was balanced by some of the drama and some of the darker side of their lives.

Rachel did it again! this was a book that was more funny than I have read in a while.. I did cry but that was from laughing loads and loads. When I read the first few pages and read about the accident and Dani being mute I had a little flashback to another book called Freefall by Tess Oliver, but it was a completely different book and setting. The only thing that they had in common was the muteness and a accident, and Dani's muteness was selective. From the first page there was a lot of humor and that I liked a lot, it has been a while were I have laughed that hard. Dani is a strong person with a lot of guilt surrounding her parents death like a lot of survivors have. We did not really get into that topic of her healing herself with that it was more about Dani and Linc's friend and relationship. The other Characters well what can I say about them.
I loved them Priss and Jay, Zane, Dem and Alec and the others that came later on. you don't read a lot about such close friendships like they had and they embraced Dani as a their little sister when Priss married a hot shot hollywood actor/director. They became her Lifeline! unlike Priss and Jay(which I understand and just wanted to help her) they never saw her anything as human or pushed her to talk..
I can't wait for Zane's story next and I have not figured him out yet, people he is a virgin! That may have something to do with the 'her' he spoke one word about and first I thought that was his pain, he probably lost her? but then we get to the ending of the book and I start thinking something completely different... I have no idea what to think about him, I guess I a just gonna have to wait =P I do have to say I cannot wait to hear more about Linc and Dani and am happy Zane is living with Dani and fam.
I also know Zane is book 2, but I do hope we get a Pris and Jay story, of how it all begon. Of Pris dealing with her parents death and dealing with Dani's trauma and taking in her 16yr old sister. Of Jay's and Dani's relationship.

ARC received for an honest review
Rachel van Dyken has done it again with Capture.
That is exactly what it does. Right from the first word to the last, it captures your heart, mind and soul.
Note that I have not read the Seaside series yet - so many books, so little time - but that did not detract from Capture. In fact, Capture inspired me to go back and read them sooner!
Dani's life has turned to crap in the past year, and I just wanted to hug the heck out of her. I can't imagine going through what she has at my age, let alone as a teen.
Lincoln Greene, huge Hollywood star, but no ego in sight really. Always saying the wrong thing. But with a heart as big as Texas, you can't help but fall for him.
I love how they are together. Linc brings out the best and the worst in Dani, when she is "forced" to become his PA by her sister and her Hollywood Hubby Jaymeson.
But he also brings out her best, draws her out of the shell she has been in for the past year, brings out her sassy and snarky mouth.
I think I spent most of Capture with a smile on my face or with a giggle escaping - well, not in the sad bits, which there are a couple.
What a "family" Dani has around her. Family is not just blood, and the way hers surrounds her, helps her, guides her - and also at times smothering her with good intentions - man those boys truly are swoonworthy. And what seventeen year old girl wouldn't want rock stars as her best friends and movie stars in her family?
From the first word to the last, I did not want to escape the wonderful world of Seaside, and I can't help to fall back into that world - hopefully not too far into the future.
Now, I find myself with a hankering for marshmallows....

This was a beautiful emotional love story about second chances.....at life, at love, at living! Lincoln and Dani's story was one that had me inhaling page after page, chapter after chapter of this gripping, mesmerizing all-consuming MUST read! Rachel definitely gives us a story that will leave you breathless!
My main complaint is that there were so many random characters introduced in this book for just a single scene, and that was confusing... however, it's obvious these are people from an earlier series, and it made me want to read that series and hear their stories.
Also, the whole her being a teenager was a little off putting.
