Very good! I was quite impressed by the writing.
When Feyre was forced to decide if she was going to kill 3 innocent people and free everyone else or let those 3 live and doom everyone else to an eternity of torture, I was sure Maas was going to find a way to let Feyre save the innocents and free everyone. But wow, the constraints were set and Maas followed through. No cop out.
The world building was good and I like how character growth was an integral part of the plot. I look forward to what is to come in the next one.

Synopsis: In the middle of a bitter winter, poverty-stricken Feyre and her family rely on the scarce meat Feyre hunts in the forest bordering the wicked Fae lands. When Feyre brings down a huge wolf, she's sure the money for the pelt will be their salvation from starvation this winter. But when the wolf turns out to be a shape shifting Fae, Feyre must give her life in servitude to the Fae court she has angered. Leaving her family, Feyre enters the Spring Court, determined to escape. If only if her captor wasn't so attractive...

Review: With all the hype around ACOTAR, this was a disappointing read. The world felt empty, and the plot behind taking Feyre but not doing anything with her made no sense until the big twist was revealed. I did like Feyre's skills as a hunter and the other Fae, but struggled with the instalove.

Ok I liked this more than I thought I would and don't think it deserves all the flack.

If you're worried about reading this story due to its reputation, I encourage you to give it a shot first before passing judgement.

I think Feyre had the opportunity to become an annoying (negative) main character; a character who succeeds due merely to her plot armor and every male character finding her attractive. I was glad that she struggles, she learns, and she adapts. Her sisters, who clearly have different values than her, are never pitted against her and their conflicts are understandable and based in their shared histories.
I was absolutely shocked how infrequent and how mild the smut was in this book as well. This, I consider a good thing as I think anything beyond wouldn't really have served the story or would have needed to happen at a point in the story where it wouldn't have made sense.

The worldbuilding was intriguing, and I'm curious to see where things go in the subsequent stories. However, I feel like some future plot points are getting set up that will not be satisfying to read. Which is to say I think many things with Rysand feel like they didn't have long enough to percolate. But this book ain't about him, so maybe I just wish he was a little less present.

I really enjoyed this story, but some of it felt so predictable that I was questioning whether my predictions were too simple? I will still probably continue the series because there are questions I have that I would like answered moving forward.
