A more unusual story with a few twists and turns that I didn't see coming. Great humour as usual and fast flowing.

It’s difficult to keep reviewing St. Mary’s novel at this point because I’m running out of ways to say “6 stars!”

Jodi hits it out of the park, yet again, and given Jodi had originally planned to end the series with #11, I was curious where she would go from here given how much Plan for the Worst felt like a finale.

The last paragraph answers that question pretty clearly!

I was unsure if I was going to get a five star in this series. Don't get me wrong, I've loved the series - it's been solid and consistent the whole way through. But this was the first in the series that gave me that five star feeling.

At this point we are attached to our characters, we're used to their antics - but this book flips it on the head in a bold way for the 12th book in a series. This felt like an author making bold choices and I really enjoyed it.

It's reinvigorated me for the next in the series.

St. Mary's is back, but in turmoil, and even more than usual. Max finds herself sacked (again), and her new job may be just what she needs. Markham has gone into the wind, fleeing shadowy government figures, and his replacement is not the sharpest pencil in the box. Clive Ronan is gone, but newer, maybe even deadlier, foes are waiting in the wings. More tumultuous changes occur, and it is uncertain if St. Mary's will survive.

As always, the characters are well developed and interesting. The story is engaging and kept me on the edge of my seat. The history is well researched and I always learn something new. I always drop everything to read the latest Jodi Taylor book, and I am never disappointed.

This is book 12 in the Chronicles of St. Mary's series. It is important to read them in order. It is not a standalone. The St. Mary's crew is a madcap, crazy group of time-traveling historians (don't call it time travel) who "investigate historical events in contemporary time." Anyone who is just starting this series needs to begin with the first book, "Just One Damn Thing After Another." I envy you the experience of reading this series for the first time.

In addition to reading the Kindle edition, I also listened to the Audiobook, narrated by Zara Ramm. Zara does an outstanding job, as usual.

Fantastic as always, only frustration was that 2 of the new characters were actually introduced in one of the short stories that are only available on kindle.

St Mary's is in crisis mode. With no Dr Bairstow, and no Markham, it's up to Max to hold the fort. Or it is until she gets sacked. With no job and no home, and Leon away on a mission, Max receives an offer too good to refuse. Little does she know what she's getting herself into.

I'm very nearly up to date with this series now, and despite being up to book 12 here it really is going from strength to strength.

I need to be a little bit careful what I say here to make sure that I don't give away any spoilers, but it's safe to say that turmoil is exactly the right word for what is going on at St Mary's. I can fully understand the actions Max takes that lead to her dismissal.

With not having Ronan around any longer St Mary's is primed for a fresh villain to put them in the crosshairs, and Taylor didn't disappoint on that front. There's a lot of dislikeable people in this one that help events to play out as they do, some of which we have come across before. I feel like this book is the start of paving the way to something huge for the series.

Taylor has shifted the direction slightly in the later books of this series, which has helped keep things fresh. I'm excited to see where things go next, and from the hints that are dropped I think we're in for quite a ride.

Per usual with this series, I can never predict what is going to happen next, only that it will be something I did not expect. It makes for a fun ride.
