Notes:
- I don't think this was a bad book I think I just went into it with different expectations than what was in it (so I'll stick it at a neutral 3/5).
- I didn't feel the connection between Eros and Psyche much — maybe because there was such a heavy emphasis on the curse driving Eros' actions and that there was no true feeling.Even after the curse was broken I felt like I missed the buildup that would've made it satisfying This meant that I wasn't all that hit by the tragedy of the curse either.
- Psyche was written out to be such a "break the rules girlboss" character for the purpose of empowering women but then her story ultimately felt dulled by the end. (This is not to say a fall in character isn't good writing, I just felt like the empowering of Psyche in this one was meant to be a feminist take on the original myth but then undid all that work at the end.)
- I think I enjoyed it because I didn't know the myth very well, so at least the plot points were new to me.
- An okay retelling; I might recommend it to someone who'd be more interested in the action and ancient Greek setting than the characters or relationships.
